On Sunday, June 28, a combined effort by a concerned boyfriend, PAPD officers, PATH personnel and EMS prevented a woman from harming herself.
PAPD PATH Command desk officers were notified by the boyfriend of a 29-year-old woman after he received text messages from her stating that she was going to a PATH station with the intention of ending her life on the train tracks.
Working with the boyfriend, PAPD PATH Command desk officers used available technology to locate the woman. The PATH train master was notified and stopped all trains on the affected line while shutting down power to the tracks. Police Officers Matthew Ruocco and Alejandro Perez were directed to the area where the woman was located. Ruocco and Perez intercepted the woman and, while treating her with compassion, requested EMS. The boyfriend provided EMS with pertinent information. EMS determined the woman needed further evaluation and transported her to a hospital.
Outstanding work by everyone involved.
