The Port Authority PBA proudly represents the women police officers of the PAPD. Their courage, dedication and commitment to the safety of the people of New York and New Jersey, as well as the millions who use Port Authority facilities daily, exemplify the high standards and expectations of the PAPD and PAPBA.
In honor of National Police Woman Day, the PAPBA would like to highlight two outstanding examples of Port Authority policewomen: Captain Kathy Mazza (EOW September 11, 2001) and Police Officer Victoria Yong.
Captain Mazza was killed in the line of duty on September 11, 2001, while rescuing people from the burning Twin Towers. She sacrificed her life so others may live. Captain Mazza was posthumously awarded the Port Authority Police Department Medal of Honor.
Police Officer Yong saved the life of a teenager who was stabbed multiple times during a family dispute in which the suspect also stabbed a woman to death and set the house on fire. Four months pregnant with her first child, Police Officer Yong, without hesitation, inserted herself into the violent incident while the suspect was still on scene. Police Officer Yong was the Port Authority PBA’s 2025 Cop of the Year.
Great women providing great public service.
