On September 22, the PAPD and NYPD helped reunite a missing elderly man with his family.
An 84-year-old man who experienced confusion and memory loss while driving was last heard from by his family shortly before his phone died. The family reported him missing to the NYPD 47th Precinct at around noon. NYPD officers were able to determine that the man’s last known location was in the vicinity of the World Trade Center and notified the PAPD WTC Command, providing a description of the man and his vehicle.
Port Authority police officers began canvassing the World Trade Center and expanding the search to the waterfront and Staten Island Ferry Terminal areas.
PAPD Police Officers James Phillips and Antonino Gambino located a vehicle matching the man’s near the entrance of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. Phillips and Gambino concentrated their search in the area of the terminal and located the man sometime before midnight.
FDNY EMS responded and conducted a wellness evaluation of the man, who was then reunited with his granddaughter, who was accompanied by officers from the 47th Precinct.
This incident is a good example of the cooperation between the PAPD and NYPD.
The thorough and dedicated actions of Police Officers Phillips and Gambino were instrumental in locating a vulnerable missing person and safely reuniting him with his family.
