Texas man carrying gun, 106 rounds of hollow-point ammo in bag nabbed at Port Authority

February 27, 2017 by PAPBA

A gun-toting Texan caught outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal told cops he came to New York to kill himself — but he had enough hollow-point ammo to do the deed 115 times, sources said.

Amos Stowers, 30, was acting suspiciously with a second man on W. 41st St. and at 4:30 p.m. Monday, sources said. He caught the eye of a Port Authority cop in a nearby security booth, and when the officer opened the booth’s window to hear what the two were talking about, he caught the scent of marijuana wafting through the air.

The officer emerged from the booth to question both men after the unidentified second man rolled and lit a cigarette, sources said.

Stowers said he had a box cutter and a switchblade in his pockets, then added, “I have a gun in my bag. Be careful — it has no safety,” sources said.

Police searched Stowers’ backpack and found a Kel-Tec 9-mm pistol, loaded with nine hollow-point bullets, as well as another 106 rounds in his bag, according to the sources. They said the cop also found burglar tools in the backpack.

“I wasn’t going to use it on anyone, I swear,” the sources said Stowers told police. “I came to New York to kill myself. … I tried to do it last night, but I could not.”

Stowers is wanted on a felony assault warrant out of Sioux City, Iowa, for a November 2014 incident, according to officials with the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office.

Stowers, who was born in Texas, told cops he’s homeless, sources said.

Police charged him with third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and trespass.
