Police: Passaic man arrested for lewdness in Lincoln Tunnel

May 12, 2017 by PAPBA

Port Authority police arrested a Passaic man Thursday evening in the Lincoln Tunnel when he was found performing a lewd act, authorities said.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Port Authority police officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on the New York-bound side of the Lincoln Tunnel, said spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

When officers arrived, they found no motor vehicle accident, but found a 2005 Dodge minivan stopped in a traffic lane with the engine running. Officers reported Ismael Esquilin, a 48-year-old man from Passaic, was standing inside his vehicle, removing his clothes and performing a lewd act in plain view, said Pentangelo.

Esquilin was instructed by police to exit the vehicle, but refused, according to Pentangelo. While removing him from the minivan, officers reported seeing a glass pipe suspected to have crack cocaine residue on the front passenger seat, and a small glass bottle filled with brown liquid suspected to have PCP on the floor in front of the passenger seat, said Pentangelo.

Police covered Esquilin with a blanket and placed him under arrest. He refused to provide a breath sample and was taken to Hoboken Hospital for evaluation where he admitted to have smoked PCP, according to Pentangelo.

Esquilin is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance; driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance; lewdness; possession of drug paraphernalia; refusal to provide a breath sample; refusal to provide a urine sample; driving while intoxicated; possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle; reckless driving; and impeding traffic.
