Union City man owes $71K in tolls and fees, Port Authority police say

May 31, 2017 by PAPBA

The Port Authority police arrested Heriberto Quiroz, 68, Tuesday on charges of theft of service.

Police officers saw a 1982 Kenworth dump truck drive through the upper level EZ Pass lane shortly after 9 a.m. and the toll indicator read “Toll Unpaid,” said Joe Pentangelo, a spokesperson for the Port Authority police. So an officer stopped the truck.

The driver, a man in his 70s, was an employee of the truck’s owner and a records check indicated that it had a delinquent account with more than 300 open violations so the owner, Quiroz, was contacted, Pentangelo said.

Quiroz met with police at the George Washington Bridge police facility and was told the violations for the truck totaled more than $36,000 in tolls and fees, Pentangelo said. Quiroz had three other delinquent EZ Pass accounts that brought the total owed to more than $ 71,000 in tolls and fees.
