New Jersey man busted for racking up over $80G in unpaid tolls

July 27, 2017 by PAPBA

A Port Authority cop monitoring the George Washington Bridge pulled Anthony Cotugno, 60, over about noon on Wednesday after he allegedly drove his 2001 Lincoln sedan through the E-ZPass toll booth despite not having a tag to pay the $11.75 fare.

Cops ran his license plate and learned that Cotugno’s E-ZPass privileges were revoked after he accumulated 1,510 violations for passing through tolls without paying.

Cotugno, who lives in Newark, owes over $40,700 in tolls and an additional $47,000 in fees, Port Authority spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

Cotugno’s Lincoln was impounded while cops charged him with theft of services, toll evasion, and a traffic violation.
