New Milford police help find, arrest man accused of almost hitting officer

November 8, 2017 by PAPBA

Felix Urgiles, 29, is accused of almost hitting a Port Authority officer after and two other officers attempted to approach his car Saturday, which was parked on the roadway in front of the arrivals gate at the airport.

As the officer walked up to Urgiles’ car, he allegedly drove away, forcing the officer to “jump out of the way” and fall into another moving vehicle, said Joe Pentangelo, senior police public information officer.

The other officers chased the car, which backed up in their direction and fled down Van Wyck. The road was closed for several minutes while police searched for Urgiles. The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor bruises and soft tissue damage and released.

Urgiles was found hiding in the closet of a Princeton Street home in New Milford that belongs to a family member at about 8 a.m. Wednesday, Pentangelo said.  Charges are pending.

“The New Milford Police Department was very helpful in finding and apprehending [Urgiles],” Pentangelo said.

This is not Urgiles’ first brush with the law in New Milford. Urgiles was charged with assault and weapons charges following an incident of road rage in New Milford in 2016. Urgiles was accused of attempting to smash another driver’s window with a baseball bat.
