Port Authority officers revive man in cardiac arrest

November 6, 2017 by PAPBA

Officers Jessica Toritto and Rebekah Epley responded to a Starbucks at the south wing of the bus terminal around 10 a.m. on a report of an unconscious man, according to Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo. The man, who was from Manhattan, had cold hands and his face started to turn blue, Pentangelo stated.

Officers Sean Gallagher, Bryan Mathews, John Anthony and Andrew Biolsi also came to the scene and helped get the man out of his chair. Toritto found he had no pulse and started chest compressions, while Epley got a defibrillator.

The man responded to a shock from the defibrillator and regained consciousness, according to Pentangelo.

EMS took over and believed the man had gone into cardiac arrest, and that the actions of the police officers on the scene saved his life, Pentangelo stated. The man was taken to Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital.
