Port Authority police arrest two on DWI charges within a half hour of each other

November 14, 2017 by PAPBA

At 3:40 a.m., police saw the first man, Aaron White, 30, of Spring Valley, New York, driving a 2007 Honda sedan across the upper level of the George Washington Bridge, said Joseph Pentangelo, senior police public information officer. Officers observed the car cross over the lane markers several times. When the car merged onto the Palisades Interstate Parkway, the Port Authority police followed and pulled the car over.

When officers went to speak with White, they could smell alcohol on his breath and saw he was swaying on his feet as he spoke with them, Pentangelo said. White failed a field sobriety test  and his blood alcohol content tested at .13 percent in a breath test.

He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to maintain his lane.

At 4:10 a.m. the same morning, officers saw a 2013 Toyota sedan on the lower level of the bridge driving erratically from lane to lane, said Pentangelo. Police pulled the car over and observed the driver, Oscar Barrera-Fiallos, 24, of Hackensack.

Police noticed his face was flushed and his breath smelled of alcohol. Barrera-Fiallos failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test. He was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a breath test, careless driving, speeding and failure to maintain lanes.
