Police: Man arrested after punching US Customs agent in the face

December 5, 2017 by PAPBA

Port Authority police responded to Terminal C at the Newark Airport after receiving a call that someone had assaulted a customs officer, said Joe Pentangelo, senior police public information officer. The suspect, Thomas Hodge, 22, is reportedly an employee for Air-Serve, a civilian contractor within the airport.

The customs official attempted to stop Hodge after he tried to exit a jetway at an airport gate, Pentangelo said. After the customs officer asked Hodge for his identification, the suspect allegedly cursed at the agent before assuming a “fighting stance.”

Hodge hit the officer in the face with his fist and opened a gash on his cheek, where he received more than eight stitches. Hodge was restrained by Port Authority police and arrested. Hodge is facing charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and obstruction administration of the law.
