The 27th annual Blue Mass for Law Enforcement was held at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark Thursday morning honoring fallen police officers. Archbishop of Newark, Cardinal Joseph W. Tobin, celebrated the mass for law enforcement killed in the line of duty.
This year there were five specifically remembered for making the ultimate sacrifice: Lieutenant John J. Brant, Lieutenant Robert Jones, and Officer William J. Leahy, all of the Port Authority Police Department; Trooper Robert Nagle of the New Jersey State Police; and Officer April Bird of the Asbury Park Police Department. Also remembered were fallen Police Officer Sean Brown and Omar Martin Sr., both with the N.J. Department of Corrections, and the 37 Port Authority Police victims of 9/11.
