PAPD PATH Command Officers Rescue Dog Loose on Train Tracks

October 15, 2025 by 911MEDIA

On Saturday, October 11, in Manhattan, New York City, Port Authority Police Department PATH Command police officers were alerted to a dog that was reported missing from its Jersey City home for numerous days. The dog, a Shiba Inu named Shohei, was seen on the loose in the PATH system, wandering the tracks between New Jersey and New York.

PATH officers requested the PAPD Emergency Service Unit (ESU) to assist with the search. PAPD ESU Trucks 5 and 1 responded.

In order to begin the search, the PATH train master had to cut all electric power to the tracks in the search area. Once the train master confirmed all power was off, the search began. Officers canvassed the area of the PATH WTC Station Track 2. Shohei was located, contained using an animal net, and transported to VEG Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Hoboken, New Jersey, and reunited with its owners.

Great work by PATH Patrol, PAPD ESU, the PATH train master and PATH Operations.
