On December 23, a 20-year-old man was assaulted and suffered lacerations to his face on a PATH train and again on a platform in the World Trade Center PATH Station. The alleged suspect, a 33-year-old Jersey City man, fled the station.
Port Authority police officers from the PAPD WTC and PATH Commands responded and began a canvass to locate the suspect.
PAPD WTC Command Police Officer Dave Ferrara located the suspect on surveillance footage boarding a PATH train to Hoboken. He provided information and a photo of the suspect to the PAPD PATH Command in Jersey City.
The PAPD PATH Command was able to locate the suspect in Jersey City exiting a PATH train in the PATH Exchange Place Station. Police Officers Daniel Kacsmar and Basil Lewis apprehended the suspect at the Exchange Place Station, where the suspect attempted to push a 33-year-old female to the tracks.
The suspect now faces charges in New Jersey and New York.
This was not the first time the suspect was arrested by the PAPD. In June 2023, the suspect was arrested for slashing a person at Jersey City’s Journal Square PATH Station. He also has a criminal history that includes indictments for multiple crimes.
Great work by the PAPD PATH and WTC Commands.
