In Remembrance: Retired PAPD K-9 Ikon

December 24, 2025 by 911MEDIA

The members of the Port Authority PBA were saddened to learn of the passing of retired PAPD K-9 Ikon on December 24, 2025.

Ikon had served in the PAPD K-9 Unit from 2015 through 2021 with his partner, Port Authority Police Officer Alex Baez. They trained together at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, and received their federal certification in explosives detection.

Ikon and Police Officer Baez protected and served the people of New York, New Jersey and the millions using Port Authority facilities daily with courage and commitment.

Ikon developed a meningioma tumor that forced his retirement in 2021. He lived a wonderful retirement and always remained faithful to Alex and his wife, Mallory. Unfortunately, the tumor led to Ikon’s passing. He was a 12-year-old German shepherd born on November 10, 2013, in Germany.

The Port Authority PBA thanks Ikon for his selfless service. Always Honored, Never Forgotten.
