PAPD LaGuardia Airport Command Officers Apprehend Armed Suspect

October 31, 2025 by 911MEDIA

On Thursday, October 30, a tense standoff at LaGuardia Airport involving an armed man ended successfully thanks to the professionalism of Port Authority cops. At approximately 3 p.m., Police Officers Danny Sun and Joseph Picillo were working a plainclothes detail in Terminal B when they observed a man quickly brandish a knife and stab another person in the head. The suspect fled, with Sun and Picillo in pursuit. The foot pursuit continued to the fourth level of the Terminal B parking garage, where the suspect stopped, turned and put his hand in his jacket pocket. He was noncompliant with the officers’ commands to remove his hand from his pocket, then produced a knife and refused to drop it. Despite continued verbal commands, a Taser was deployed but had no effect on the suspect. Additional officers arrived on the scene and assisted Sun and Picillo in the nonlethal apprehension of the suspect, resulting in no injuries to either the suspect or the officers. An outstanding job and outcome by the officers of the PAPD LaGuardia Airport Command.
