Police say driver had $3,490 in unpaid tolls

May 9, 2017 by PAPBA

Port Authority Police arrested a Jersey City man or owing over $3,490 in tolls and fees.

At 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Port Authority police observed John M. Woodley, 25 of Jersey City, on the lower toll plaza of the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee drive a blue GMC Yukon with New Jersey plates through an EZ pass-only lane, said spokesman Joseph Pentangelo.

After a sign indicated that the toll had not been paid, Port Authority police pulled the suspect over and the driver could not produce an EZ Pass, Pentangelo said. According to the spokesman, an investigation revealed that Woodley had 54 open EZ pass violations that amounted to more than $3,490.

The suspect was arrested and charged with theft of service, toll evasion, and disobeying a sign and is due in Bergen County Court on May 26, according to Pentangelo, who said the car was released to the owner after processing.
