Recently, the Port Authority PBA, along with other law enforcement unions, met with New York State Senator Monica Martinez and New York State Assemblymember Kwani B. O’Pharrow in support of their proposed legislation, the Edeedson “Joshy” Ciné Jr. Transparency Act, which, if enacted, “requires businesses possessing surveillance footage relevant to a felony investigation to release that footage to law enforcement upon receipt of a formal written request, without the need for a warrant or subpoena.”
The proposed legislation stems from the 2025 murder of Edeedson “Eddy” Ciné Jr. at a Suffolk County CVS on Christmas night. Surveillance cameras inside the store captured the crime, but police investigating the killing allege it took nearly 18 hours for the footage to be turned over. Today, his family, lawmakers, and law enforcement officials are calling for the immediate passage of the Edeedson “Joshy” Ciné Jr. Transparency Act.
