Off-duty detective nabs alleged car burglar in Jersey City: cops

January 14, 2018 by PAPBA

Port Authority Police Detective Anthony Cutrone spotted 48-year-old Eric Rourk, of Union City, trying to break into several cars near 16th Street and Jersey Avenue at about 6 a.m. on Friday, spokesman Joe Pentangelo said.

Cutrone notified police and followed Rourk around the corner, where the 48-year-old used a screwdriver to get inside  2014 black Infinity, Pentangelo said.

Officers arrived at the scene and arrested Rourk. He was found carrying a pipe with drug residue, two pairs of new women’s high heeled shoes, and two bags of new socks, gloves, scarves, and hats, the spokesman said.

Police determined the merchandise had been stolen from an SUV on Newport Parkway, he said.

Rourk was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
