Rest in peace, WakeMed Campus, North Carolina, Police Officer Roger Smith (EOW 11/8/2025). Police Officer Smith became involved in a struggle with an individual in the WakeMed Garner Healthplex Emergency Department when he was fatally shot. His selfless actions are credited with saving the lives of others in the emergency department. Police Officer Smith was 59 years old and had served with the WakeMed Campus Police Department for 14 years.

Suspects Apprehended Thanks to PAPD, Harrison P.D. and the New Jersey Transit P.D.
On Wednesday, November 5, a stabbing in Harrison resulted in Harrison police officers pursuing six suspects. It was reported that one suspect was possibly armed with a handgun. The foot pursuit led to mutual aid assistance from PAPD PATH Command officers, PAPD ESU Trucks 1 and 5, and New Jersey Transit police officers. Some suspects fled into the PATH transit system, causing approximately a 40-minute suspension of service on the Newark–Harrison Line.
PAPD PATH Precinct Police Officers Apprehend Suspect With Violent Criminal History
On Thursday, November 6, a man with a violent criminal history brandished a firearm and threatened two young men near Journal Square in Jersey City. The victims quickly alerted Police Officers Philip Campo and James Gonzalez of the PAPD PATH Precinct, providing a description of the suspect. Campo and Gonzalez canvassed the area and located the suspect, who led them on a foot pursuit that ended with his apprehension inside an office building along the Jersey City waterfront.
Port Authority PBA Acknowledges Lifesaving Efforts of USMC Lieutenant Colonel and PAPD Police Officer
The Port Authority PBA acknowledges the lifesaving efforts of Lynbrook, New York, Police Officer Patrick Kelly while waiting to board an American Airlines flight at LaGuardia Airport on November 1. Police Officer Kelly, a U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel infantry officer and the 4th Marine Division operations officer, was on military orders waiting for his flight in the American Express Lounge in Terminal B when he heard someone yell, “Call 9-1-1, call 9-1-1!” Kelly observed a panicked woman whose 88-year-old husband had become unresponsive and unconscious.

The Port Authority PBA always honors and remembers Sergeant Lawrence Guarnieri (EOW 11/4/2014). Sergeant Guarnieri succumbed to a 9/11 illness contracted during his heroic and selfless work in the toxic environment of the World Trade Center Rescue and Recovery. Sarge, continue your peaceful rest in the Lord’s eternal embrace. Always Honored, Never Forgotten.
