For a third day, bumper-to-bumper tractor trailer traffic left residents in a state of disarray on the Staten Island Expressway. Traffic was backed up on both the eastbound and westbound portions of the expressway due to the tractor trailers’ presence. Drivers with unpaid tolls, ghost plates, and license plate covers have been on notice. Police are looking for them and ready to write tickets or even seize vehicles. A 16-member law enforcement task force held the 100th operation on the Robert F. Kennedy Triborough Bridge on Tuesday. Officials have called it “a coordinated regional effort.” It was first organized in March 2024 as the number of ghost plates and unbilled tolls increased.
